1 Peter 3:10-12 The Scripture says, “A person must do these things to enjoy life and have many
happy days….”
Think about the 1st Century Church.
The only Church that did not have the New Testament, yet the Church grew daily. How did they do it? What kept the early Church growing? What teachings did they have?
2 Peter 1:16 Obviously, the teachings about the Christ, and the teachings of Christ Jesus, were all
brought to them by “Eyewitnesses.” Eyewitnesses who saw, who walked with, who
talked with, who ate with Jesus.
Acts 10:39-43 We are witnesses of everything he did…..
Luke 23:50-55 Eyewitnesses who saw Jesus die on the cross, who saw Jesus wrapped in burial
cloth and who saw Jesus put into a tomb.
1 John 1:1— Eyewitnesses who saw the resurrected Jesus alive; who physically touched him, who
ate with him, put their fingers in his nail wounds and side. Remember “Thomas?”
John 6:28 Eyewitnesses who heard Jesus respond to the question:“What is the work God requires?”
John 17:3 Eyewitnesses who heard Jesus say “..this is eternal life: that people know you, the only
true God, and that they know Jesus Christ, the One you sent.”
Luke 1:1-4 Eyewitnesses wrote it down so we will Remember (1 Cor 15:1-2, 2 Peter 1:12, Jude 5)
So, how did the early Church survive?
By BELIEVING what the “Eyewitnesses” said about Jesus.
John 1:12 By believing the teaching that Jesus came to give men the right to become God’s children.
What “teachings of Christ” did the early Church followed?
Mark 12:29-31 Love the Lord— Love your neighbor as yourself No other commandments are greater than these.
Romans 5:21 Believing in the GRACE of God (Eph 2:8 …you have been saved by grace through believing.)
Remember, the Scripture says “let the “Word of God” dwell in you. John 1:1 , Heb 4:12
The 1st century church had no bible, but did have the “Word of God”
